About the event
Agriculture and food security featured prominently at COP26 and COP27, and the COP28 President’s Action Agenda makes it clear that we need to take action to achieve resilient, sustainable and equitable food systems that provide affordable, safe and nutritious food for all. International collaboration is vital for achieving this goal and high-level declarations like the Emirates Declaration signal the political ambition needed to take urgent action. But what tools and collaborative initiatives do we have to deliver on these? Are we going far and fast enough? And how do we think about trade-offs and interdependencies, and ensure we are delivering a just transition that works for all? This event, co-hosted by CGIAR, the UK FCDO and the World Bank, will build on what was achieved at COP26, COP27, the UN Food Systems Summit and the Global Food Security Summit to demonstrate some of the key approaches for achieving international collaborative action to deliver a more sustainable and resilient agri-food system, inviting a conversation about how those tools are delivering change and what more needs to be done and how COP28 can accelerate progress. We will discuss:
- How the Agriculture Breakthrough is bringing countries together to accelerate the development, deployment and adoption of technologies and other innovative approaches
- How the Global Policy Dialogue for Sustainable Agriculture, the UK in partnership with the World Bank, is leading efforts to build momentum for policy reforms
- How the Just Rural Transition is bringing together a knowledge hub, a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogues and a global community of practice on the evidence, perspectives and approaches that can help drive a just transition to sustainable agriculture and food systems.
