Climate change and food security: The role of nuclear science

About the event

The High-level event will showcase how the Food and Agriculture Organization and International Atomic Energy Agency through the Joint Centre have supported Member States with: research and development, reduction of GHG emissions, and capacity building and technology transfer to increase the resilience of global agrifood systems against the ravishes of climate change. The event will also highlight how nuclear sciences and biotechnologies can be used to develop improved crop varieties, enhance animal productivity, and control insect pests and animal diseases, and support flexible, responsive, and predictive food safety mechanisms to effectively deal with the effects of climate change.
