About the event
Climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution are combining to stress the planet and our global food systems. This stress is exacerbated by forest loss, land and soil degradation, unsustainable agricultural practices, water scarcity, and disasters like droughts and floods. Food systems, including agriculture, are recognized as a main contributor of GHG emissions and biodiversity loss, with more than 65% of agricultural land estimated to be degraded, while these interconnected challenges also weaken food security for millions worldwide. Scientists, in partnership with international and national practitioners and stakeholders, have been developing solutions to address these interconnected challenges, building on the direction given by international key instruments like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the global biodiversity framework and using an integrated approach to build social-ecological resilience, enabling participation by all, including women, youth, and disadvantaged people.
